Canberra Trip

19.11.15

Last week Jessica Barber-Hicks, Jessica Madathil and I went on the SAPOL Leadership camp to Canberra. We travelled with 16 other South Australian students from the southern region who won an English competition. The competition explored the effects of social media on society, both negative and positive. As a group we experienced amazing tourist attractions and completed some challenging obstacles. We were fortunate enough to go to visit the Australian War Memorial, participate in the Last Post Ceremony and visit Parliament House. While at Parliament House we met our local members of parliament, Amanda Rishworth and Jamie Briggs and watched question time – which we were astounded by! If we behaved like our politicians did, we would be kicked out of class!

The obvious highlight of the trip was the day we travelled to Mount Kosciuszko. We made the three hour trek, where we bonded with one another by singing and telling stories. Our journey took us all the way to the summit, a total of 13km. While it was challenging, we all made it and it was an amazing experience. Lucky for us we were also able to see snow and for a majority of us it was our first experience. Overall, it was an amazing trip and we all become such good friends. We would like to thank SAPOL and the three officers who went with us, as well as Miss Belton for giving us this once in a life time opportunity.
