Open A1 – Coach: Tyler Orr

The Open A1s had another tough game this week but were disciplined enough to come away with the win against a strong and experienced St Michaels side. After extending the lead to about 8 goals, St Michaels were able to come back and challenge us in the final quarter, however with the composure of Jade Paparella in Centre we held on. The girls displayed an exciting performance, with Libby Mapleston and Kayla Howes significantly contributing to this. Libby is a smart and skilful attacker, who feeds seamlessly to Kayla. I’d also like to acknowledge our Year 9 student Skye Larchin who has done an incredible job to compete with mostly year 11 & 12 athletes. She takes on feedback well and is a great defensive element to our team. Finally, a special mention to Chloe Cakebread who played her best game of the season so far in GK. She won a majority of the rebounds, caused multiple turnovers, and allowed us to maintain the lead against this quality opposition.

Year 7A – Coach: Tayla Knoblauch

It was a tough game against Sacred Heart on Saturday, due to their exceptional speed and skill level. I’m proud of the way the girls implemented the feedback that was provided to them and used it in the game, whilst never dropping their heads. It has been great seeing them progress and continue to work as a team every week. Special mention to Julia Hogg who never gave up defensively, getting numerous intercepts and tips. Also, Armani Gough was able to consistently shoot goals from many different locations in the goal circle. Congratulations girls.

Year 7B – Coach: Jamie Wise

We had a difficult game against Sacred Heart this weekend, who have always been a quality team to play against. With quite a big difference in height, my attack end struggled to feed into the circle, however, Lois Gardner and Natalia Dean’s partnership and movement in the circle was great. It was awesome to see Katie Valentine-Proffit and Rylee Phoenix adapt to this as well. They confidently executed alternative passes and plays to feed into our shooters. Our defensive pressure was maintained throughout the full 4 quarters, even when one of our defenders went down with an injury. Captain Lois who is generally a shooter was put into defence. She adapted well and played like an absolute superstar down there. Regardless of the score, I’m really proud of the girls’ attitude and sportsmanship this weekend.

Year 7C – Coach: Lucy Honkoop

Unfortunately we only had 7 players on the weekend, however the girls still played an exceptional game! It took a while for them to work their way into the game, but when they did they flowed together really well and I’m happy with what they put out there. A special mention goes to Ava Plunkett who played in Centre for her first time on Saturday. She listened to what was asked of her and did extremely well in the midcourt.
