The Cardijn College Open Boys and Girls 5-a-side squads travelled to Reynella East High School to participate in the Southern / Fleurieu Zone competition. The weather held off as the schools played some vigorous, intense soccer throughout the day. The boys and girls represented the College with aplomb and should be commended for their behaviour on and off the field of play.

The Open Girls team consisted of largely middle school students and soon discovered the physicality that was required to play in an open age competition. Their performances were highly credible, defeating Aberfoyle, Mt. Barker and Reynella East on their way to finishing second on the day. The team can be proud of the way they conducted themselves and we congratulate them on their efforts. Top performers on the day go to Kiara Bayford, Jess Benzi and Rani Thompson.

The Open Boys performed at a very high standard, dominating each game and winning the overall stakes. They played some superb soccer as they defeated Mt. Barker, Aberfoyle, Woodcroft and Reynella East. The boys will be encountering much more difficult opponents in the State Finals and will need to be more focused and retain a high standard of play. Excellent performances from Scott Gobec, Josh McIlvar and Brock Couchman.
