Cardijn Connect W6, T1 2024

Over the last couple of weeks, all Year 7s enjoyed a camp surrounded by nature at Wirraway Homestead.

The students participated in a range of different activities including low ropes, archery, horse riding, team bonding and games. We are proud of our students for stepping out of their comfort zones and embracing new challenges.

Camp has been a successful way for students to forge new friendships and expand their learning beyond the classroom walls. 

Given the large number of Marcellin students commuting to school on bikes and scooters, there is a need for a storage facility to safely accommodate the many micromobility vehicles parked at school.

This week the students assisted our tradesman, Lachy, with installing the roof sheeting for our newly constructed shed.

The collaborative effort of our students in assisting Lachy with this project provided them with a hands-on opportunity in a real-life scenario while enhancing our school's facilities.

The Cert II in Construction students are currently engaged in multiple projects. They are beginning construction on the next pergola at Galilee while also completing and refining their rosewood coffee tables. Additionally, they have commenced work on a deck in the sitting area, which will soon accommodate another picnic table currently being built by the Skills Practical students. These hands-on projects not only provide valuable learning experiences but also contribute to enhancing the school environment for the entire community.

The Skills Practical students have also completed two picnic tables, ready to be delivered to Galilee with the Immersion students constructing some wonderful chopping boards made using a range of beautiful timbers.

Five students from Mrs Mastrapasqua's Art class last year have been picked to feature in the SACE Art Show. We are delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our past Year 12 students, who have excelled with over 50% receiving A grades, including A+.

This exceptional group has demonstrated their talent in various artistic mediums, including digital, charcoal, oil paint, mixed media, and watercolour, showcasing their diverse talents and creating pieces that resonate with their generation.

We are so proud of their growth and achievements! 

During the term, our Year 10 and 11 Marian Art students enjoyed an excursion to the Art Gallery of SA. They engaged in analytical writing and gained valuable insights into the art analysis process required for senior school visual arts. 

For many students, the excursion broadened their artistic horizons by helping them foster a deeper appreciation for the power of art in shaping perspectives and inspiring creativity.  

In terms 2 and 3, we have a variety of exciting after school sport options for your child to choose from!

To ensure your child's participation, we kindly ask that all parents and carers complete the following nomination form - 2024 School Sport Nomination & Consent Form.

IMPORTANT: As highlighted in the academy parent and student declaration, it is a requirement for all academy students to represent the College in their chosen sport and parents/carers must complete the nomination form. 

Once you have submitted the nomination form, you will receive an email receipt as confirmation of your child's participation. This will serve as a reassurance that your child's spot in their chosen sport has been secured.

We are incredibly excited about the upcoming winter sports season and look forward to seeing our students thrive on the field/court. Thank you for your continued support in encouraging our young athletes to pursue their passions and excel in both academics and sports.

⭐ Congratulations to Year 11 Marian student Zoe who made her SANFLW debut for South Adelaide Football Club against West Adelaide on Friday night. 

Her debut at league level came as no shock, as Zoe has been displaying her outstanding football ability throughout her time at Cardijn as a member of the Football Academy and in various school competitions. 

We look forward to following Zoe's football career as we cheer her on every step of the way!

Year 12 students recently visited BioFit in Noarlunga as part of their Community Connections program, exploring the connection between health and future careers.

David Craggs, an alumnus from the Class of 2006 and owner of BodyFit, shared insights with students about the importance of aligning workouts with career goals.

As a Cardijn old scholar, David's words resonated with the students, offering valuable guidance for their journey ahead.

Year 7 Marian student, Judd, showcased his impressive talent in motorcycle racing over the weekend. Competing in Round 1 of the Australian FIM MiniGP, Judd had an outstanding performance.

His dedication and hard work paid off as he secured victory in both race 1 and race 2, earning him the overall round win. 

With this strong start, Judd is aiming to represent Australia in Spain at the World Finale in November this year.

We congratulate Judd on his achievements and wish him continued success in his racing!

We're thrilled to report that Galilee's recent Town Hall meeting was a success.

On Tuesday, our community gathered to engage in discussions on vital topics such as the Cardijn Strategic Plan, the Galilee Master Plan, and uniform matters.

This meeting provided a valuable opportunity for us to come together to share crucial information and seek feedback.

Plus, attendees enjoyed some delicious cheese and wine while connecting with teachers and other community members.

Thank you to all who participated, making this event a memorable and productive one for Galilee!

Marcellin students have been working on new sculptures for the school which have been designed, crafted and installed completely by the students.

The aim of this project is to showcase the diverse trades that are on offer at Marcellin.

Benny and Reece (pictured) are currently working on the Saw and Hammer before giving it a fresh coat of paint. The sculpture will be situated at the front of the school. 

Attention staff, parents and caregivers, the City of Onkaparinga will implement a full road closure of Old Coach Road, Maslin Beach between Tuit Road and Oleander Road from Tuesday 12 March to Saturday 16 March from 7.00am – 4.00pm. 

Outside of these hours, the road will be open to traffic with some safety restrictions in place.

Join us at Marcellin for our Breakfast Club, a new initiative on trial that's already proving successful!

Every Tuesday morning, from 8am to 8.30am, we gather in the Outdoor Classroom for a nutritious start to the day.

Students receive a complimentary breakfast along with some fruit to fuel them through the day ahead. Everyone is encouraged to join!

Our goal is to teach students the importance of a healthy breakfast, especially those who are embarking on careers in the trade field.

We would like to express our gratitude to Arlo, Charl, and Matt for coordinating this week's session.

Let's keep the momentum going and ensure we can continue offering this valuable program to our students!

The Secret Garden is a magical and much-loved space that the youngest members of Galilee relish exploring and caring for. This year the Early Years children have spent a lot of time enjoying the Secret Garden in their first few weeks of school.

Our fruit trees have blessed us with peaches and plums. During our Eco Literacy lessons as stewards of the earth, the children have been collecting the rotting fruit from the ground and placing it into the compost. Conversations were initiated when the children wondered ‘How are we going to eat all the fruit before it falls on the ground and goes yucky?” It was decided that we would make jam to sell to the wider community and to raise money for a ‘Welcoming Friendship Bench’ that the children we are eager to place in the Secret Garden.

The Secret Garden offers a safe and comfortable outdoor space for students to connect, engage in conversations, build friendships, and be creative, fostering a sense of belonging and joy.
