From Years 7 - 12, students at Cardijn College have a high level of participation in a range of sporting endeavours. These sporting competitions are offered in the form of representative sport (during school hours) and extra-curricular sport (after school or on weekends), as well as inter-school carnivals and state-wide competitions.
AFTER SCHOOL SPORT
Cardijn College has been a member of the Sports Association for Adelaide Schools (SAAS) since 2011. This is the premier school sporting competition available in South Australia. Matches are played on the weekend and also after school. As a member of SAAS, Cardijn offers a wide range of sports for our students to participate in. Cardijn College also competes in the South Australian Catholic Secondary School Girls Sports Association (SACSSGSA).
All teams, notifications, fixtures and premiership tables can be found on Team App – Cardijn College, through your mobile device.
The following sports are available during the year:
Term 1 / 4
Term 2 / 3
Sports Day is held in week 7 of Term 1 at SA Athletics Stadium. It provides a fantastic opportunity for students to display their athletic ability in a number of different track and field events. Students represent their House and earn points towards the Championship Trophy.
The Year 7, 8 and 9 Swimming Carnival is held at Unley Swimming Pool in the final week of term 4. The carnival caters for the competitive swimmers as well as students who want to get involved for their House through novelty events and water polo.
Catholic Co-Ed Carnivals
Every year Cardijn College competes in the Catholic Co-Ed Swimming and Athletics Carnivals. These carnivals give the elite athletes in the College the opportunity to compete against the best athletes from rival Catholic Colleges across the state. Swimming is held in week 5 at the Adelaide Aquatic Centre, and Athletics is held at the SA Athletics Stadium in week 9 of term 1.
House Sport competitions are held during lunchtimes throughout the year. Students participate for their House and are often involved in teams with students from different year levels.
Term 1 – 7-a-side Soccer
Term 2 – 9-a-side Football (AFL)
Term 3 – Volleyball
Term 4 – Netball
Tenison Woods Exchange
The Annual Exchange between Cardijn College and Tenison Woods Exchange was established in 1987. Since then each school has been taking it in turns to billet the visiting school. The sports on offer are boys and girls volleyball, netball, AFL, boys and girls basketball, debating, and mixed touch football.
Southern Schools Cup
Each year, Cardijn College, Woodcroft College, and Tatachilla Lutheran College compete in an afternoon sporting competition in Term 3 for our Open representative teams. The Southern Schools Cup includes Netball, Soccer & Football (AFL). The afternoon is an opportunity for the students to compete in a friendly local tournament.
